Riders to the Sea, Short Surfing Clip set on Achill Island
This is a lovely little Irish surfing edit. The story is set in the beautiful Achill Island which is a place I visit at least once a year for some surfing and some rest and relaxation. Filmed by Mickey Smith and Allan Wilson the basic plot goes something like this: A surfing duel breaks out between a male and female surfer off the West
Coast of Ireland. Breaking waves, racing hearts, and the treachery of
Lycra.
We hope you enjoy!

After a safety briefing and a some instructions on how to stand and hold the paddle correctly we were off with our helpful instructor, Pete, for a 2km downwind SUP from Skerries Harbour to Barnageeragh Beach. We hugged the coastline and with a nice breeze on our backs we made some nice time. I fell off a few times just to cool down!
Being able to paddle and chat along the way Pete gave us a rundown on some of the water activities that they are providing this year. Along with the Stand Up Paddle lessons, Outdoor Dublin are now providing surf lesssons, kids camps (10-16yrs), Blow Karting and Fitness camps. The facilities provided by the lads are top quality, with brand new changing rooms, shower facilities and a cosy room with a stove to relax and have a cup of tea after a good paddle session.
For those who are looking at getting out for a paddle during the week and are based in and around Dublin, then this could be your answer or for any school groups or tours these are ideal activities to safely introduce kids to water-sports. And if you are looking for a Dublin Surf Report then check out their Facebook Page for regular updates on Dublin Surf Conditions.
I have to say we were both pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed it and as soon as there's a bit more of a stretch in the evenings I will be heading down to Skerries for a regular mid-week paddle. If nothing else it keeps up the fitness for the usual weekend Surf Trips.
Here's a couple of embarrassing photos courtesy of Pete!
