With the boom in surfing over the past number of years the number of different types of accommodation to suit all surfers has grown. I’ve stayed in Bundoran on numerous occasions; it’s actually the first place I began surfing and home to my first ever surf trip. So where is best to stay? Below is a review of a few different places I’ve stayed in:
Bundoran Surf lodge
Back in 2008 I first stayed in the surf lodge at Bundoran Surf Co. on the main street, close to the Ballyshannon side of the town. There was a big group of us, close to 25 altogether. The surf lodge was perfect for us… the single guys gathered in the dorms and the couples and some of the girls checked into the private rooms. The place has a real surfing atmosphere… it’s pretty clean (best it can be considering most people coming back from the sea), got a decent kitchen and dining area and the breakfast is exactly what you want – tea/coffee, toast, cereal, juice, etc. A great thing about this place is the friendly staff and the cool surf shack in the courtyard is great for chilling out wih a cup of tea!… We’ve been back to this place on different occasions over the years.
Marine View Townhouses
For the first Seasessions Festival in 2008 we rented a house, there was 6 of us altogether and we just wanted the comfort of drinking and eating in the house so we opted for the Marine View town houses on the western side of the town. These are three bed houses in a great location not far from the centre of the town; short walk to Maddens Bridge Bar & Jumpin Jacks and very close to ‘The Peak’. There’s loads of parking to the rear and the houses are spacious and clean.
Bundoran Surf Co. Self -Catering Houses
For one of the surf trips back in 2008 one of the lads organised a house through the Bundoran Surf Co. These guys offer Self Catering Houses for those who want to branch out on their own away from the surf lodge. There was a large enough group of us so we got two houses side by side… perfect for the few drinks before we hit the town at night! The houses were very clean and spacious 4 bed and worked out great for the weekend. The only down side was that they’re slightly away from the main street, located on the western side of the town… so about a 10 minute walk to Maddens Bar but at least your away from any potential late night trouble.
The Summerhill Apartments
Just recently Paddy, Myself and a few of the girls went to the third year of Seasessions Surf & Music Festival. The town was booked out for this weekend but we managed to get a two bed apartment in the Summerhill Apartments. With 5 of us altogether and a couple who arrived late and crashed on the ground the spacious apartments suited grand. One great thing about these apartments is their location in the centre of the town, just off the main street. The apartments are clean and as long as you leave them that way the owners are happy!
