Irish Wetsuit for Irish Conditions-Mara Irish Surf Co.

5/3 Charger

Mara Irish Surf Co.

So I finally bit the bullet and got rid of my leaky wetsuit. Its been on my mind for a while to try out the Mara Range of Wetsuits so last week I took a trip down to Skerries in North Co. Dublin to meet the Mara Crew and check out their setup. I was greeted by Pete, the co-owner of the company, who showed me round the facility and talked about their future plans to grow the business.

The new surf school (Outdoor Dublin) was still under construction but was nearly there and it was impressive to hear that the lads carried out most of the work themselves with the help from a few friends. The school will be offering Surf lessons, SUP lessons, Blo-Karting, Windsurfing, Kitesurfing lessons, Kayaking, summer camps, coastal tours, island tours, equipment rental, surf fitness, surf yoga, SUP race nights, private and corporate groups, beginner/intermediate/advanced lessons.

5/3 Charger

5.0 Pro BootiesAfter trying on the 5/3 charger wetsuit I knew it was for me, comfortable fit and you could tell that they were built with the surfer in mind. Features include: Hyperflex neoprene, Thermo Pro interior lining, WindMesh chest panel, fully taped seams inside, triple glued and blindstitched, tapered wrist seams, anti flush ankle system, DuraFlex kneepads. Available in both chest zip entry and back zip entry (with bat collar system and key stash). These wetsuits are ultimately warm and super flexible.

Next I tried the 5.0 Bootie Pro The split too fit very well and they felt so light weight and natural underfoot. Pete said he was not a fan of booties himself so he designed them with this in mind. Tough and ultra lightweight, these booties were designed to give you the warmth and protection you need without weighing you down. Their split-toe design gives a better fit and with the FiberStretch panel to allow easier entry.
Features include: Double strap, Liquid Seams, FiberStretch panel, Split toe.

Dying to try out my new gear, I traveled to Clare on Saturday morning for an early surf. I was greeted with clean lines, lovely sunshine and an an empty beach. The new wetsuit and gear were great, it was lack of paddle power that brought me in after 3hours and not the usual cold! Great to see an Irish Company behind such a great product.
